STARTS: Stage + Arts

For students grades 7-12
STARTS: Life Upon the Wicked Stage 101 Workshop Overview
In this theater-based workshop, students will explore character development through research, writing, costume design, and set creation. They will embody a character, create a monologue based on their research, design costumes and a simple set for a final presentation. As well as create an original artwork through their characters’ eyes. This workshop aims to enhance students' public speaking skills, creative writing, research abilities, practical skills in sewing, and problem-solving skills through 2D and 3D design.

SCHEDULE

Dates: June 9th-13th
Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM 
Final Performance: Friday, June 13th at 1 PM

Workshop Objectives
By the end of this workshop, students will:
  1. Research Skills: Conduct in-depth research on a notable figure, exploring their life, values, and impact.
  2. Character Development: Develop a monologue that reflects the personality, thoughts, and voice of the chosen character
  3. Costume and Set Design: Design and create a costume and simple set pieces using sewing, fiber arts, mixed media, and printmaking techniques.
  4. Public Speaking: Deliver a confident, well-rehearsed monologue as part of a final skit presentation.
  5. Collaboration and Professionalism: Work with professionals in theater arts, visual arts, costume design, and studio art.
  6. Creative Expression: Integrate research, writing, and visual arts to embody the artist in performance.
