Out of an abundance of caution we are suspending public access to the HopeCAT facility effective at 3PM today, Friday 3/13. This access will also be limited to staff only for the week of 3/16 – 3/20. We are finalizing preliminary plans to allow for a form of distance education but need approval from the PA Dept of Education.
Please check your hopecat.org email address, social media, and remind app in the coming days and week for updates. It is very possible we may have all students return at some point next week to pick up computers and educational materials so that we can resume classes even before the end of next week on a remote basis or in accordance with CDC and best practice protocols.
If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our staff.
Below is the information we have from PDE as of today, Sunday, March 15, 2020:
The Private Licensed School (PLS) Board has scheduled a conference call for Monday at 1:15 to vote on a new policy to provide schools significant flexibility over the next 90 days, while everyone gets through the current issues regarding COVID-19.
Currently, HopeCAT will remain closed to the public for the next two weeks.
Please be advised that HopeCAT will communicate to you clearly and daily on the status of our school and the next steps we are permitted to take regarding continuing your education though this trying time.
With that being said:
Please add yourselves to Remind (free app on the app store) MA group for communications
We will update again as soon as we know more after the meeting Monday at 1:15pm.
3/16/20 Dear HopeCAT MA Students:
We continue to monitor the breaking news from the Dept of Education and the Governor’s office.
At this time, we have received preliminary guidance from PDE on the approval process to deliver instruction remotely. It will take us time to supply information to the proper authorities for approval. Please continue to check back daily for updates through the methods we have been communicating including the remind app, email, our website, and social media.
Our goal is to maintain the integrity of your education - including your NHA certification - without jeopardizing any instruction quality.
Additionally, at 2PM ET today the governor instructed all nonessential PA businesses to close. He is also encouraging people to stay home as much as possible. Continue to shop for food as you normally would, but do not spend time elsewhere unless it is essential. I encourage everyone to watch the press release from today for further information. A link to this and other information is available here: https://www.governor.pa.gov/
As I’ve told the staff, the most important thing is our health and safety.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email the staff. They are working remotely now and will respond as they are able.
We are putting things in place to be able to provide instruction for Quarter 4 via Canvas (an online Learning Management System). We will spend the next few days getting prepared to implement the new delivery method starting Monday, March 23.
You will each be scheduled for a time slot on Thursday, 3/19/20, to come get your things (books, computer, etc) and get the plan and instructions to successfully complete your coursework.
For now, do nothing; hang tight as we iron out the last steps before implementation.
You will be updated tomorrow. -Sarah
