Jayme Mckay
Painting & Drawing Resident  2025–2026

A graduate of Youngstown State University, Jayme’s whimsical works are inspired by classic children’s book illustrations. Her series follows her beloved cat, Pumpkin, through outdoor adventures with woodland creatures like field mice, frogs, and baby deer. Using mixed media — from acrylic and oil paint to glitter and intaglio prints — Jayme brings playful stories to life on canvas. Jayme will be teaching Painting this year for our Youth Arts Program.

Sophie is originally from New Jersey and has her BFA from NJCU. She creates large-scale animal sculptures that highlight the unique shapes, textures, and behaviors of the creatures we share the planet with. Using pigmented powders, she gives her pieces a soft, colorful finish that brings every detail to life. In her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano, hiking with friends, and spending time with her family and her cat, Ike.

Unlock your child's creative potential with HopeCAT's free after-school Youth Arts programs for grades 3-12. Designed to ignite imagination and foster personal growth, our program brings together students from various school districts to explore the world of art through a rich, structured curriculum. Here, mentorship and creativity go hand-in-hand, offering an engaging way to enhance education.

Students in grades 3-6 are welcomed from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM to experience our rotating studio sessions. They'll build foundational skills in each art form, preparing them for Open Studios—an exclusive opportunity for grades 7-12.

Open Studios, held from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, offer older students the freedom to explore their artistic passions. With access to all studio spaces, this self-led time allows them to dive into their projects while Arts Program Coordinators are on hand for guidance when needed.

Our programs use a combination of high-tech tools, compelling classes, and caring adults to help youth explore the arts and pursue their education in school and beyond. Students are recruited through their partner schools to attend HopeCAT after school programming, but is open to any student grades 3-12 who can provide their own transportation. Classes are at no cost, but students are required to maintain a good record of attendance and behavior.

Youth classes at HopeCAT include Ceramics, Printmaking, and Painting/Drawing. Courses offer hands-on instruction, allowing students to shape their own pottery or work high-tech equipment to unleash their creativity. Courses include:
  • Experienced instructors who are also accomplished, working artists.
  • Access to state of the art equipment
  • Encouragement and support from adults who care
  • Opportunities to turn creative visual arts into transferable skills

This summer marks the launch of Hope Center for Arts and Technology, Inc.’s (HopeCAT) Youth Leadership Academy (YLA), empowering high schoolers (grades 8-11) to embark on a journey of leadership development. Our program unites young leaders in a blend of community involvement, activism, entrepreneurship, and communication through the transformative power of art.

Throughout the seven-week program, students gather weekly to refine their artistic skills through hands-on projects within our community. From product design ventures showcased at local festivals to immersive mural installations, participants explore diverse avenues of creative expression. Additionally, a compelling visual journalism initiative culminates in a gallery talk led by our youth leaders.
